Seafarer continuous Development Program
The Seafarer continuous Development Program (SCDP) is a scheme aimed at providing training berth spaces / sea time for third party organisations and individuals on NSML managed vessel to enhance and ensure supply of skilled manpower in Nigeria and the regional shipping industry.
Successful applicants will have the opportunity to serve on-board world-class LNG vessels (steam and DFDE) under the management of the Nigeria LNG Shipping Management Limited (NSML).
- To help provide sea-time / on-board training for seafarers & cadets on internationally registered vessels.
- To provide specialized training for working on LNG vessels
- Opportunity for achieving gas tanker endorsement.
- Steam engine certification on-board training for marine engineers.
- DFDE certification on-board training for marine engineers.
- To provide skilled manpower in the regional shipping industry.

Qualifying Criteria
The Trainee affirms he/she has met the following qualifying criteria before acceptance on the training programme.
- Not be less than 18 years of age;
- Must possess all relevant sea-going documents, including the following:
- ENG-1 seafarer medical certificate of not less than twelve (12) month’s validity.
- STCW mandatory training/refresher courses (where applicable) which ought to, have been completed within the last 5 years for:
- Personal Survival Techniques (STCW Code – Table A-VI/1-1)
- Fire Fighting and Fire Prevention (STCW Code – Table A-VI/1-2)
- Elementary First Aid (STCW Code – Table A-VI/1-3)
- Personal Safety and Social Responsibility (STCW Code – Table AVI/1-4).Valid travel document of at least twelve (12) months validity.
- Valid seaman’s discharge book.
- Valid travel document (International Passport) of at least twelve (12) months validity.
- Letter of reference from reputable maritime organisation or maritime college indicating successful completion of an approved academic maritime training.
- Police character certificate (for Nigerians) or a valid USA or UK visa (for non-Nigerians).
- Undergo the NSML familiarization training. (This charge will be included in the entry fee).
- Proof of payment after above criteria has been met
- Letter of reference from a person or organisation of good repute engaged in the private or public sector.
- Possess valid on-board training record book.
For Certificate of Competency holders seeking LNG tanker sea time, additional Emergency, Occupational Safety and Survival training on:
- Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boat (STCW Code -Table A-VI/2-1) completed within 5 years;
- Proficiency in Advanced Fire Fighting (STCW Code Section A-VI/3) completed within 5 years.
- In addition to the above, specific STCW certification for (ECDIS, Security Awareness/Designated Security Duties, HELM, High Voltage) completed within the last 5 years for holders of a Certificate of Competency.
